As you might know (or not), I’m independent worker since 2005. And since 2007 I’m working from home. I got a room which is my « Home Office ». I recently worked on PSP and Kinect titles (external missions). So I had multiple hardware kits (X360, PSP, Wii, DS, plus special device for a small recent mission). Now that console development is over for me, I’ve gave back the lent X360 and PSP kits and put away the DS and Wii devkits.
I also bought some new hardware for the development of Ragged Edge. A friend sold me a PC (150 Eur, that was a bargain). The PC is installed with Windows 7, that might be nice to have for testing purpose. (I got Windows XP on my PC). I installed Ubuntu 10.04 using dual boot method. For the small mission I’m doing at the moment, I require a Linux machine, so that was good opportunity to install Linux on my second PC. Installation is very easy.
Last but not least, I bought a laptop. This is first time for me. I need something to hang in my home or work outside. I chose a 17′ HP 2Ghz laptop (G72 serie). Cheap (399Eur) and enough powerful for what I need. I’m very happy with it. I’ll also use it for minimal configuration tests (there is no specific graphic card inside, it is on-board card). The game is currently running fine on it.
So here is a picture oh my office room:
On right, the second PC that will be used as server. It is currently running Linux. On center my PC. On left, my HP laptop. On extreme left, a 1983 Vectrex console (it is my console, still working! woow).
I got space for two people, but I’m alone. I like having space.
Edit: You may have a look at the « 5S » method. It roughly explain why it is better to have clean office and how to acheive that. Today I took out of my office all the stuffs I did not used in the past months. The things I’m using everyay are close to my hands. The things I’m using sometimes are into drawers.
